Design II Project 1

Justin Lamont
Project Number One

For our first project in Design II at Faringdale State College we were given the task of taking an existing static (does not move) bridge and modify it. the bridge must span a distance of 190 feet, 10 feet above the water and a 30 foot section of the road must be able to move so something that is 40 feet tall from the surface of the water can move under it. Our primary goal was to take everyday items that move from around our house and apply its function to the bridge of our choosing. We first had to create a table and write down challenges we must face with each combination, and once we have finally chosen, the most important thing when applying that function, was to change the form of the bridge as to how the function is affecting it.

This is the challenge table below

Current Prototypes

This bridge is combined with the mechanical function of a wine bottle opener

This bridge has been combined with the functions of a CD drive

This is an animation of how it will function

This is the bridge I have chosen to work with, this is the first step in 3 dimensions

Here you can see the slight modifications made along with a more solid 3D look

This is the final edit of the bridge and its functioning component

This is the evolution of this particular idea
